Regional folklore festivity “Alive antiquity”
 

Demonstration of different forms of traditional folk culture in natural ritual situation of the traditional festival “Last day before Trinity fast” makes the basis of the regional festivity “Alive antiquity”. For many years the festival is held in Pozharische village of Nyuksenitsa municipality. It was first arranged in 1995 and then became a nice tradition.

The festivity promotes to preserve folklore traditions of the area of the middle Sukhona and Kokshenga Rivers, to support the creative activity of the masters – bearers of folk traditions and amateur groups, to stimulate the cognitive and creative activity of the youth and families preserving folk traditions.

“Alive antiquity” every year gathers folklore and ethnographic groups from different corners of Vologda Oblast and other areas of Russia. It is a festivity, an exchange of experience, a presentation of folklore traditions of different places.

The program of the festivity traditionally includes walking “in rows” in Pozharische and Kokshenskaya villages, swinging, dancing, arranging feasts and the ritual of “twisting a birch-tree”, performances of folklore groups and exhibitions and sale of folk applied articles and local cuisine.
