Vologda Oblast LiteratureThe ancient and original culture of the Vologda land is almost fully embodied in the art of the word. Practically until the 1930s Vologda Oblast was some kind of a national reserve where the system of genres of traditional folklore was almost completely preserved. Absence of the serfdom on the most part of territory of the Vologda province and thus, absence of «nobility jacks», i.e. the centers of culture of the European type, explains the relatively small number of representatives of the Vologda literature in the XVIII - the beginning of the XIX century. The exception is K.N.Batyushkov's name (1787 - 1855), the native of Vologda. Batyushkov's verses are marked by deep lyricism, perfection of the form of poetic language. In the history of the Russian literature Batyushkov represented the victory of lyrics of a new type and he became the direct predecessor of Pushkin. In the second half of the XIX century the Vologda province known as rural, draws attention of the pro-folk style writers. Here lived and worked P.V.Zasodimsky (1843 - 1912), P.L.Lavrov (1823 - 1900), N.Z.Shelgunov (1324-1891). For many years the literary life of the Vologda Province was influenced essentially by such a nonliterary factor, as the political exile. In the beginning of XX century in Vologda and in the province a big group of revolutionaries, among which N.A.Berdyaev, A.A.Bogdanov-Malinovsky, A.V.Lunacharsky, A.M.Remizov, B.V.Savinkov, P.E.Schegolev lived in exile. The Vologda exile had the greatest influence on the creative biography of Remizov (1877 - 1907). The destiny of many writers of the end XIX - the beginning of XX century is connected to the Vologda land. Poet - ego-futurist Igor Severyanin's childhood was in Cherepovets (1887 - 1941). The representative of classical Russian realism A.I.Kuprin (1870 - 1938) for a long time worked in village Danilovskoye, near Ustyuzhna. Neo-populist current in the literature of the Silver age is represented by N.A.Klyuyev's creative work (1884 - 1937), who was the native of Vytegorsky district. Klyuyev managed to create on a folklore basis original lyrical-epic style, to express in the verses and poems historical and religious ideals of the peasant. V.T.Shalamov (1907 - 1982) - the author not only world famous «the Kolyma stories», the tragic epos of Stalin camps, but also the pathetic - lyrical book of memoirs on the childhood «the Fourth Vologda» was born in Vologda . If earlier the fact that the writers belong to the Vologda literature was determined, mainly, by biographic factors, then in the 1960s the critics started talking about «the Vologda school» as a more general current of «the rural literature». The school took its roots in A.Ya.Yashin's work (1913 - 1968) where for the first time the truth about the Soviet village was told, and questions on destinies of peasantry and traditional country culture were sharply put. To the given school though in different degrees, belonged V.P.Astafyev, V.I.Belov, V.V.Korotayev, À.V. Petukhov, A.A.Romanov, N.M.Rubtsov, 0. A.Fokina, S.V.Chukhin. Rozanov Y.V., |
