Film “Island” by Pavel Lungin with its subjects and visual row is near to documentary film of our fellow-townsman director Yury Polovnikov “Island of Saving”, which was shot in 2001 in a small monastery on an island in Onezhskoye Lake. Both films root a spectator out of everyday reality, where is almost no place for reflections about the sense of human being, for unhurried contemplation of world, for understanding of one’s place in it. They narrate about saving, awakening of human soul. The creative evening was opened with mention about spiritual closeness of these two films – fragments from film “Island of Saving” were shown to the audience.
Performer of one of the roles Viktoria Isakova began conversation about the film “Island”. She called the film fantastical in its beauty, simplicity, strength of thought and love. Alexandr Pashutin mentioned, that the film continued the best traditions of Soviet cinema, up till now loved with spectators, which narrated about people, looked inside a person. It is remarkable, that modern Russian cinematograph began to return to it, and “Island” is a splendid film of a world level, but, unfortunately, such holydays still happen too seldom.
The preview of the film “Island” was anticipated by performance of men chamber chorus of the Vologda Region Philharmonic Society named after V. Gavrilin.
